Presentation Title: The eco-friendly coating products contributing to equipment’s extended lifespan and cost reduction.
Presentation Abstract: NTT-AT has developed three eco-friendly, non-dangerous, and also unique paints that extend the life of outdoor infrastructure equipment and significantly reduce the cost of its maintenance. They are the results of research at NTT, the largest Japanese telecommunications company.
The first one is a super hydrophobic paint “HIREC”. HIREC strongly repels water as the initial contact angle of water droplet is over 150 degrees, and the water repellency lasts for about 3 years by its original self-cleaning mechanism. When rain falls on antennas, the water film absorbs radio waves, which causes communication issues. The HIREC’s surface repels rain and prevents from radio wave attenuation. HIREC also prevents snow from accumulating on the equipment and causing serious accidents.
The second product is SurfCool, a heat-shielding paint that protects equipment from extensive heat caused by climate change. Infrared rays convert to heat when they are absorbed by materials, so we have added special pigments to reflect infrared rays of the sun. Not only does SurfCool contribute to reduction of power consumption for air conditioning in the factories and equipment outdoor, but it also contributes to preventing important electronic devices inside from going out of control due to the heat.
The last one is a thermoplastic powder paint, SAPOE5000 that protects metal equipment from corrosion for over 35 years. This coating is applied at the factory and can be applied not only on steel, but also galvanized surfaces with high adhesion, that too without a primer. SAPOE5000 supply double rust prevention effect with galvanized. NTT is newly installing thousands of steel utility poles every month and all of them are painted with this coating, so that protects infrastructure from damage caused by salt water and hydrogen sulfide gas. All these products contain almost zero organic solvents and are classified as non-dangerous goods
