Presentation Title:  How Davids Control the Goliaths in coatings? The chemistry of control

Presentation Abstract: This is a study of how a small number of additive molecules about one tenth the size of the binder polymers controls the large, high molecular mass polymers.  This study explores how the chemical architecture of synthetic associative modifiers dictates the bulk properties of water-borne coatings. Specifically, we analyse how hydrophobe length, type, and molecular mass; alongside the ratio of hydrophilic to hydrophobic segments, correlate with shear dependence and overall performance of water-borne coatings.

A deeper understanding of structure property relationship of various types of rheology modifiers will help formulators to carefully select different rheology modifiers to achieve the perfect balance across all stages: in-can storage, application feel, and final film appearance and durability.
