An Independent coating inspection and testing organisation. In that time Paintspection have conducted over 500 independent inspections. Many of these investigations have ended up in various judiciary where Ian’s opinions are considered expert. For this presentation Ian will be discussing what he sees as an increasing trend of the selection of dark colours used on the external façade of residential, commercial and some industrial buildings. The selection of these colours will have a substantial effect on the surface temperature of the building façade and very likely the performance of the coatings used.
Presentation Title: Colour selection and the effect on surface temperature
Presentation Abstract: The selection of colour may be having a profound detrimental effect on the performance of the selected coating.
The use of some colours maybe pushing the surface temperature beyond the Tg of the coating contributing to reduced coating performance. Particularly in adhesion, increased dirt pick up, loss of gloss and reduced coating life.
We will look at recent projects where the surface temperature exceeds the recommended maximum in the manufacturers technical data.
With the ever increasing pressure on costs a simple change may substantially improve the life of the surface.
