Presentation Title: Improved Sustainability for Acrylic Emulsions in ERC and ETICS
Presentation Abstract: Due to regulatory changes in the EU, alternatives for the incumbent UV-crosslinkers are being sought after. These crosslinkers are used in high-quality acrylic emulsions to provide a harder coating surface and an improvement in dirt pick up resistance (DPUR) to enhance durability of the formulated system while maintaining their effectiveness as cool roof elastomeric coatings and preserving color stability for exterior wall applications. The incumbent UV crosslinker has demonstrated extended durability on weathering exposure so the replacement technical solution was formulated on reference formulas for ERCs and ETICS high quality spaces and subjected to weathering exposure to assess the durability attribute. The technical solution demonstrated equivalent performance across stability of the formulated system, delta E color changes (measured using CIELAB color space), no impact in the main properties defined by the final application, even after heat-age laboratory testing, as far as exterior exposure data which show long term durability in a Pennsylvania exposure site. The results support the adoption of an alternative additive that provides durability and DPUR as part of our sustainable solution to attend to the European market.
